Zinnias vintage Phoenix Archives

Hello! I’m Kristen, owner of Moonstruck Vintage, and vendor here at Zinnias. Mike has asked me to do

some guest blogging here, and I look forward to sharing some of my perspectives on loving, collecting,

buying and selling vintage with you.

When I am out on the hunt for vintage, I continually find myself drawn to the unexpected beauty of

the everyday object. I seek out simple treasures that speak to my aesthetic. A dish filled with old keys,

a mason jar of mismatched buttons, a dusty old tool box no one has touched for years tend to call my

name.

What is it about these everyday pieces from the past that attract me? I love that back in the day even

the simplest object was worthy of good craftsmanship. The attention to detail and design work on

common and utilitarian pieces is often surprisingly beautiful. Even a basic item like a button could be a

work of art. The shapes, colors and textures of these pieces have a unique beauty, and when grouped

together these can make interesting, playful and artistic collections.

I love the worn look of these pieces that have been well used, and have withstood the test of time. The

imperfections, scratches and scrapes, chipping paint and rusty parts reveal a visual history that hints at

that object’s story.

I often wonder how many pieces like this are being lost to the landfill every day in today’s disposable

society. As people sift through their belongings, and discard what they deem as useless, junk, many

treasures are bound to meet an unfortunate fate. Appreciating and rescuing these everyday relics from

obscure garages, old sheds and forgotten boxes is one of the things I love about what I do, and another

way we can connect with the past.

All the Best,

Kristen
